2009 Mountain Biking Adventures
Mountain Biking General Description
Whether gliding down rolling jeep roads or muscling through
technical single tracks, the mountain bike routes selected by HealthQuest will
provide an invigorating experience for the beginner and experienced bicycler
alike. Each trip will include lessons on equipment information, basic mountain
bike maintenance, environmental awareness, and rider’s responsibilities.
Instruction will focus on enhancing basic skills as well as advanced challenges
such as stream crossings, sand bars, and many other technical maneuvers. As
always, our guides will offer challenge, support and encouragement. Fed by
healthy doses of adrenaline and excitement, the physical and mental challenges
of mountain biking will promote confidence in an individual’s balance, strength
and stamina, and the ability to respond quickly to the change in terrain. We
hope this healthy combination will encourage clients to assess themselves as
talented, skilled and able to respond with competence during other life
challenges.

Get down and dirty! The HealthQuest mountain
biking clinics are intended to help any rider fine-tune his or her techniques
and discover new tricks for having fun and becoming a more skilled and efficient
off-road cyclist. On the first evening we will meet indoors to discuss
different mountain bike components and gear; learn basic mountain bike upkeep;
and find the best anatomical fit—individualized to the shape, size and personal
preference of each rider. For the following two mornings we will gather bright
and early (to avoid the weekend trail congestion) at one of the local trailheads
selected specifically for the great variety of excellent biking terrain.
Following a warm-up of trailside Yoga, we’ll dive head first into pedaling,
shifting, and braking methods, as well as skills needed for rocky climbs and
tricky descents. The routes will also offer opportunities to practice
switchbacks, rocks, logs, drop-offs, and other natural obstacles. The friendly
and experienced guides will provide advice on developing strength and endurance,
building confidence, and finding the inspiration to ride.
Relinquish your inherent skill and balance on two wheels!
Price Includes: Healthy and energizing snacks, and expert
instruction. Your own bike and gear are recommended, but we can assist in
